Welcome to Messiah! Are you familiar with the “facepalm” gesture? If not, you will be! Jesus had plenty of opportunity to close His eyes, cover His face with His hand, and shake His head in response to some of the things His disciples said and did. We can take great comfort in the disciples, because they’re just like us. In today’s Gospel reading we see James and John making a ridiculous request of Jesus. They were seeking power and glory, but Jesus had something far greater in mind. God’s blessings as we worship the One who had come to serve – not to be served – and give His life as a ransom for many.
