What is Community Group Ministry About?
Community Groups exist to connect people relationally, so that they can grow spiritually.
How does Messiah define a Community Group?
Community Groups are small groups of approximately six married couples or eight to ten individuals of the same gender that meet regularly. It’s a place to be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to grow in our relationship with Jesus.
How Do I Connect With A Community Group at Messiah?
Interested participants are strongly encouraged to register for a group in January. There are Men’s Groups, Women’s Groups, and Groups for married couples. The first meeting for each group will be held during an event at Messiah called Group Link. Registration for groups and Group Link events take place twice a year in January and September.
What is Group Link?
Group Link is a launch event for community groups that takes place twice a year. All groups meet for the first time at Messiah to celebrate signing up for a Community Group. Attendance at Group Link is required for all who participate in Community Groups. Participants can expect to dress casually, but anticipate fun and surprises. Light food and drinks will be served. Save the date: January 27, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.
Who Facilitates the Community Group Ministry at Messiah?
Group leaders are selected twice a year through an interview and application process. Leaders are essential to helping groups take next steps in faith, service, and community.
What Happens at Group meetings?
Successful groups eat together, laugh together, and pray together. Usually a group will have thirty minutes of social time, an hour of study time, and will end in prayers. Groups also plan social outings and events as well as service time together. Groups typically meet 2-3 times a month.
When and Where Do Community Groups Meet?
Although Messiah’s facility is available for a limited time each week, groups are encouraged to meet in homes. Some groups will start with a set schedule and study plan, while other groups will make a plan together. Groups determine their own schedule for time and night of the week.
How Long Do Groups Meet?
Groups meet for 12-24 months. Typically, groups follow a Fall and Winter semester schedule with social and service events planned for Summer and Christmas Break.
What Do I Need To Do To Participate in a Group?
Participants are asked to show up, join in, and be real.
How do Groups Choose Curricula?
Choosing what to study can be the first struggle for a new group. To help out, Messiah provides a starter curriculum called “Circle Up” by Andy Stanley. Groups choose their studies together after completing the starter study. Leaders are trained to offer selections that promote spiritual growth for members.
Can people join a group after Group Link?
What if I can’t find a group that works for me?
Groups close after the initial registration period and launch event. Contact email@example.com to get help finding a group to meet your needs.
What Do I Do with My Kids for Childcare?
It is strongly encouraged that groups do not meet in the same location where more than one family is receiving childcare. We understand that the expense of childcare could be a deterrent to participating in a community group. Because we are committed to removing as many obstacles as possible, the church reimburses group participants at a predetermined rate for their childcare expenses, if needed.
