“Blue sky overhead / long road unwinds before us / not a town in sight.”
-SoDak haiku written on our drive to the Badlands on our way home
As we conclude our 8th trip to South Dakota, it is important for us to acknowledge the incredibly small part we play in the large, rich story arc of the hardworking, inspiring youth center in the corner of the sprawling prairie with whom we have the privilege to work each year . Between the Main (designed for kids age 3-12) and the Teen Center (designed for kids age 13 and older), we spend our week each summer hustling and bustling between the two programs performing a myriad of tasks.
That being said, we have pulled out five major themes of our trips for the past eight years that keep us coming back to the Cheyenne River Reservation. This is how we see Jesus at work.
If you want to join us next year, we have space for you in our South Dakota family. The world is so big and it has been humbling to be a consistent piece of life at the Cheyenne River Youth Project each year. We hope you enjoy our stories from South Dakota this year. We also hope you will be able to see a glimmer of Jesus in each of them.
