We welcome Rev. Matt Heise to Messiah Lutheran this morning as our guest preacher. Matthew Heise is a native of Dearborn Heights, Michigan and no matter where his travels have taken him, has remained a lifelong member of Guardian Lutheran in Dearborn. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a Master’s Degree in European History from Wayne State University (Detroit). After teaching and coaching in a Detroit Catholic high school, he served for two years as a volunteer ESL missionary for LCMS World Mission in Moscow. The mission bug proving difficult to extract, he then entered Concordia Seminary in St. Louis where he studied for the Master’s Degree in Divinity. Upon graduation from the seminary, he served as a theological educator for thirteen years at LCMS World Mission, returning to Russia and also teaching in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Belarus and the Ukraine. He is completing work on his doctoral dissertation, writing about the persecution and martyrdom of Russian Lutherans in Joseph Stalin’s USSR. Since April 2014, he has been serving as the Executive Director for the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, based in Macomb, Michigan.
