First Lesson: Hebrews 7:26-27; 9:6-15
Gospel Lesson: John 11:49-53
In the eyes of the people, the High Priest was considered a GMOG – a Great Man of God. Indeed, he was great. He had the task each year, on the Day of Atonement, of entering into the Holy of Holies and bringing the blood of the sacrifice before the Lord in order to atone for the sins of the people – including his own sins. Jesus offered one sacrifice, the shedding of His blood, for the sins of the whole world and it was offered to God in the heavenly Holy of Holies. Jesus is therefore far greater than any high priest and is the only one worthy to be called – a Great Man of God. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not on sinful men!
