Readings:
Old Testament Lesson: Jeremiah 1:4-19
(God calls Jeremiah)
Gospel Lesson: Luke 19:41-43 (Jesus weeps over Jerusalem)

Jeremiah was known as “the weeping prophet.” He had the undesirable task of letting the King and people of Israel know that of God’s impending judgment – that Babylon was coming to destroy Jerusalem and the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Very few listened, very few repented and turned back to God. Jeremiah was put in the stockade, imprisoned, and persecuted for his preaching – and Jerusalem was eventually destroyed. But Jeremiah also prophesied that God would restore Jerusalem after 70 years.

Worldly wealth has a way of creating a false sense of spiritual security – thousands of years ago, and still today. Material blessing is not necessarily a sign God is pleased with our hearts. A life of genuine repentance and trust in God’s mercy through Jesus is the only thing pleasing to God!
