Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 12:1-9 (God calls Abram)
Gospel Lesson: John 8:31-41 (Children of Abraham)
Abraham is referred to in the Bible as the “Father of faith.” Unlike some other major characters in the Bible, Abraham really didn’t accomplish anything spectacular like Moses, David, Elijah, or Paul. Abraham simply lived by faith. But don’t assume that Abraham was perfect – far from it. There were times that Abraham lived by human reason or fear, and made a mess of things. But God’s Spirit was always at work bringing Abraham back to God. No matter what mess you have made living by fear or logic instead of faith, God’s Spirit is constantly at work drawing you back to God’s grace. You may be a broken tool, but God can still use you!
