Wow! Second day in Guatemala done– and our first day of VBS was a success! This week, we are learning all about Noah, God’s plan and love for him, and God’s plan and love for us. Today we talked specifically about how God cares for us– just as he cared for Noah by telling him to build an ark to save him from the flood. We built with blocks, played soccer, sang LOTS of songs, and made an adorable ark craft. In the afternoon, they put us to work as we helped pave a path to the kitchen (they serve Incaparina– a nutrition drink– to the children there, and it can be hard to access during the rainy season!) It’s safe to say that we were tired by the end of the day.
What’s most amazing to me is how quickly relationships are built in just a few hours. Although we don’t speak the same language, we spoke through things like laughter, chasing each other, high fives, and hugs. We sat with each other. We enjoyed each other’s company. We encouraged each other with the few words we knew. We spoke through a language of joy and love.
I am shown time and time again of the power of God’s love. What other power could connect people so intentionally and so quickly? His children speak though love. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13). And why do we love? Because Christ first loved us. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Incredible, and forever, things happening here!
